Prior to directing his first feature film, James Cameron oversaw the special effects on the Roger Corman production Battle Beyond the Stars (1980), where he also served as Art Director.  He also contributed to the special effects in Escape from New York (1981) and was the Production Designer and Second Unit Director for Galaxy of Terror (1981), and was a Production Assistant for Rock ‘n’ Roll High School (1979).

Despite the fact that James Cameron is known for making movies with record-breaking budgets, The Terminator was made on meager $6.4 million, which was still fairly low in 1984.

The actor who worked the most with James Cameron was Bill Paxton, who appeared in The Terminator, Aliens, True Lies, and Titanic.  Paxton also provided the narration and appeared as himself in the IMAX documentary Ghosts of the Abyss.  Including the short for the T2 show at Universal Studios and the TV documentary Expedition: Bismark, Cameron worked with Arnold Schwarzenegger four times, Michael Biehn four times (his cameo was cut from the theatrical version of T2), Lance Henrikson four times, Linda Hamilton three times, Jenette Goldstein three times, Sigourney Weaver twice, and Earl Boen twice.

James Cameron acted as a producer on four feature films that he did not direct:

  1. Point Break (1991)
  2. Strange Days (1995)
  3. Solaris (2002)
  4. Sanctum (2011)

The first project that James Cameron directed in 3D was “T2 3-D: Battle Across Time” for the Universal Studios theme park in Orlando, FL.

    I was hoping the questions would be more along the lines of “True or False: James Cameron is Kirk Cameron’s father.”

  2. I got 70% on the quiz so I am accepting that as a win 🙂
